llms.txt, robots.txt & sitemaps: invite AI crawlers in

The new file AI engines look for

llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your site that summarises who you are, what you do, and which pages matter most — written for AI crawlers, not humans. It's the fastest way to hand an engine a clean, unambiguous description of your brand instead of making it guess from your marketing prose.

The three files that matter

• llms.txt — a structured brand summary + links to your most important pages.
• robots.txt — must explicitly allow GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended. Many sites block these by accident and then wonder why they never appear in AI answers.
• sitemap.xml submitted to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Bing matters more than people think — ChatGPT Search runs on Bing's index.
